Origin City

Origin City in West Smithfield, London opened its doors last year as a new British nose-to-tail destination offering well-sourced, simple ingredients served beautifully. Owned and operated by the Landsberg family, provenance is a big calling card here, with all the meat sourced from the family’s 600-acre organic farm in Argyll, Scotland. 

Designed by Siobhan Mooney, the look and feel of the restaurant needed to reflect the owner's passion in providing the best value and the best quality products. The concept behind the aesthetic was for it to be a backdrop for the food, delivering a comfortable setting that offered flexibility for customers to enjoy quality dishes from morning through to evening. 

Siobhan selected Industville to supply the lighting and used a variety of its handcrafted and sustainably made products throughout the space to help achieve the desired ambience. 

“Opting for understated and subtle lighting was key,” explains designer, Siobhan Mooney, “we needed something with a contained shade that allowed the light to focus below which the Pewter Pendants did perfectly. We chose to place these around the edge of the restaurant, rather than the middle, providing a source of light pleasant to the eye without being too fussy. 

“Working with Industville gave us the flexibility and choice to customise the lighting, helping to achieve the right atmosphere for a variety of dining scenarios throughout the day. We selected different sized pendants to give variation and definition to the space. For instance, a bigger fitting with a chain addition to the flex and copper inside the shade complimented the large table that has a U-shaped banquette around it. We could choose to line the shades with different metals which added a further layer of warmth increasing the overall ambience - this worked particularly well above the bar, where the copper inside really caught your eye delivering an inviting glow, whilst connecting visually as a link to the chef’s station. In design it’s all about the detail, and being able to use LED bulbs that were compatible with dimmer switches ensured the space stays welcoming at all times of the day.”
