BIID Committees
Our volunteer committees and panels are essential in achieving our strategic aims
The BIID is led by its Council of Directors and their work is supported by our 5 standing committees and 3 standing Panels. Committees focus on specialised areas of the BIID’s work in accordance with our Strategic Plan. They ensure that the BIID works to deliver the most for its members and the wider industry.
Committees
CPD Committee
Remit: To oversee the organisation of regular CPD events including lectures, seminars and tours; To oversee the BIID CPD Providers Directory, including reviewing entry criteria; To oversee the development of any online CPD; To review the Institute’s annual CPD requirement.

Eligibility: Any Registered Interior Designer, Associate, Provisional Associate, Student or Affiliate member is eligible to join this committee.
Meeting frequency: This committee meets 3 times per year, May – on-line, September – in-person, January – on-line.
Diversity & Inclusion Committee
Remit: To ensure diversity and inclusion is incorporated into all BIID strategy; Oversee any research conducted by the BIID into D&I; liaise with the CPD committee to ensure D&I is included in the CPD calendar; consider how the BIID can ensure that individuals have equal access to train as interior designers and equal opportunity to progress and succeed in their chosen profession; consider how our partnerships with other organisations can facility improved D&I in the interior design profession.

Meeting frequency: This committee meets 3-4 times per year, with the majority of meetings taking place online.
Membership Committee
Remit: Current members and vacancies: to review the entry criteria for all membership categories; Review the benefits offered to members to ensure they are relevant, appropriate, and valued; Research new potential membership benefits; Oversee membership networking events.

Eligibility: Any Registered Interior Designer, Associate, Provisional Associate, Student or Affiliate member is eligible to join this committee.
Meeting frequency: This committee meets 3 times per year, with the majority of meetings taking place online. The current schedule is: May – online, September – in-person, January – online.

Professional Practice Committee
Remit: To oversee the operation and development of the BIID Professional Pathway, the route from graduation to becoming a BIID Registered Interior Designer®; To review, and if necessary, update the BIID Code of Conduct and Complaints Procedure; To respond to government and industry consultations on behalf of the Institute, as and when they arise (and as appropriate), to ensure the views of professional interior designers are adequately represented at this level; To oversee strategic work on policy and professional practice as required.

Sustainability Committee
Remit: To oversee the BIID's work on sustainable interior design practice; To collaborate with other committees to ensure sustainability is included in the BIID's membership entry requirements, Code of Conduct, training and public facing content; To develop relationships with other likeminded organisations working towards a more sustainable built environment; To oversee strategic work on sustainability issues as required.

Panels
The Institute currently has 3 standing Panels. Members of Panels do not sit regularly as a group, rather they are called on as needed.
CPD Assessment Panel
Remit: To assess content developed and offered by third party organisations as to whether it can be awarded ‘BIID CPD Provider’ status. For more information about the BIID CPD Provider’s Directory please visit this page.
Eligibility: Any Registered Interior Designer or Associate member is eligible to join this panel.
Meeting frequency: There are no scheduled meetings of this Panel. As and when new applicants apply to have their CPD accredited, panel members will be emailed with details of the date and time of the assessment (which might be online or in person) and they can then decide whether or not they would like to attend.
Mentoring Panel
Remit: To provide online mentoring to Provisional Associate and Associate members working towards becoming BIID Registered Interior Designers.
Eligibility: Any Registered Interior Designer with at least 10 years of professional interior design experience is eligible to join this panel.
Meeting frequency: Online mentoring sessions are held 4-6 times per year, and members of the panel will be sent a list of upcoming dates well in advance. Members can then decide which sessions they would like to attend and RSVP for those.
Professional Standards Panel
Remit: To sit on disciplinary panels as part of our Complaints Procedure to investigate any complaints received that members have breached the Code of Conduct.
Eligibility: Any Registered Interior Designer with at least 10 years of professional interior design experience is eligible to join this panel.
Meeting frequency: Meetings are only arranged as and when a complaint is received. Panellists will be contacted once this has occurred and asked whether they have availability to participate.
