Leading The Profession: BIID's Three Year Plan

I am excited to announce the publication of the BIID’s 2024-2027 Strategic Plan. This is the result of the hard work of our committee members, Council directors and staff team and we are all really proud of the result. 2021 saw the publication of our first 3 year Strategic Plan, and the intention was to publish a road map of where we were going and what our priorities were. We wanted to publish it on our website for anyone to be able to read and we very much welcome feedback. 

The main difference between the previous Strategic Plan and this one is that previously we published our Sustainability Strategy and Diversity and Inclusion Strategy alongside it as separate documents. We thought long and hard about whether we should do the same for the 2024-2027 Strategic Plan. Ultimately we decided to merge them all into one document as we want to ensure we take a holistic approach and embed Sustainability and Diversity and Inclusion in everything that we do.

Some things have not changed. Our Mission is still to advance professionalism, integrity and excellence in interior design and our values are still those of being approachable and supportive, inclusive and collaborative and ethical and environmentally responsible. For 2024 and 2027 we are focusing on four Strategic Aims:

1. Maintain, protect, and raise standards of professional practice
2. Champion the value of design, designers, and the Institute
3. Build a supportive and diverse community
4. Promote sustainable, ethical and inclusive design

Within each Strategic Aim we have listed a number of specific activities and initiatives we will undertake to achieve these aims, including the appropriate time periods. We will publish a report on progress against all of these aims as part of the Annual Review we publish and share with members and present in person at our Annual General Meeting. However, we very much encourage members and non-members to engage with us on the Strategic Plan throughout the period it covers: April 2024 to March 2027. We welcome questions, comments and suggestions!

The rest of my tenure as President of the BIID will be spent ensuring that we are delivering what we have committed to in this Strategic Plan, with the support of our fantastic membership and staff team. From my perspective this is an incredibly exciting time for us and the future looks very bright.
