Interior designers are invited to book this CPD with FSB to uncover the 'how to' when specifying high performance door furniture and finishes.

This CPD will cover the following topics:

  • What materials are available for door furniture (aluminium, stainless steel, and bronze) with analysis and comparison between the materials and the dis/advantages of each finish.
  • Case studies to see materials and finishes in different environments and what problem solving approaches are used to determine their selection.

CPD overview

This CPD will give an overview of how the design industry use materials, such as aluminium and stainless steel to develop products for bathroom fittings that are accessible for all users.

It will also explain how the industry can provide high quality and high performing design techniques to ensure maximum comfort and additional support for the less able. It will briefly cover the design standards, and requirements for accessible fittings in hospitals and hotels. The case studies will show the possibilities of the different materials in the different environments, the use of colour contrast and various options.

Learning outcomes 

  • To understand the design development for aluminium and stainless-steel products for the use of bathrooms to ensure they are accessible for all.
  • To discuss the design approach for selecting different materials for different projects, i.e., hospitals and hotels.
  • Identify problem solving opportunities in ironmongery, i.e., material advantages and disadvantages.
  • Assist designers in gaining a better understanding of how to specify different designs according to the EN standards.
