Albert Hall Regeneration Project: Swansea

Revitalising the historic Grade-II listed Albert Hall in Swansea was a complex yet highly rewarding undertaking. After being closed since 2007, this cherished former music hall and cinema has undergone a meticulous restoration. The project carefully balanced preserving its historic charm with incorporating modern features to meet contemporary needs. The renewed venue now serves as a dynamic cultural hub for the local community.

In June 2024, the transformed Albert Hall reopened, offering a lively, multifunctional space. Its new facilities include a food hall, bar, meeting rooms, private dining areas, a performance stage, first-floor offices for local businesses, serviced accommodation units, a rooftop garden, and a gym. This redevelopment has reinvigorated an iconic Swansea landmark, ensuring its continued relevance in the city’s cultural scene for generations to come.

A significant aspect of the project involved installing over 150 flush paint-grade fire doors, including both standard and glazed options. For the public areas, a sleek dark grey finish was chosen, while the accommodation units featured clean white doors.

JB Kind’s FD30 glazing service played an essential role, supplying Certifire-approved Type 12 glazed doors. Their flexibility and commitment to meeting deadlines proved vital for the contractor, alongside an efficient call-off service that ensured timely deliveries throughout the project. Additionally, JB Kind provided FD30 fire-rated glass for several glazed screens.

The JB Kind Sales team collaborated closely with both the contractor and the local merchant supplier, facilitating smooth communication and quickly addressing any challenges. This teamwork was critical in maintaining the project’s momentum and ensuring successful completion.

The in-house joinery workshop at JB Kind rose to the challenge, delivering bespoke glazed fire doors within tight timeframes. Each door was expertly crafted, with apertures carefully cut, fire glass fitted, and beading applied to ensure full compliance with Certifire certification. The result was a flawless combination of safety, quality, and style.

The Site Contract Manager shared their experience:
“Our merchant supplier recommended JB Kind for door supply, and they exceeded our expectations. Their ability to provide high-quality glazed fire doors on a tight deadline made the process straightforward. The team’s consistent communication and ability to resolve issues quickly were invaluable. JB Kind’s additional provision of FD30 fire glass for glazed screens further simplified our procurement needs.”

Simon Johnson, JB Kind’s Sales Director, commented:
“We’re delighted to have supported this landmark regeneration project with our FD30 glazing service. Delivering doors that meet stringent fire safety standards while maintaining exceptional quality was our priority.

“Our call-off service is designed to provide peace of mind, ensuring projects run smoothly with doors delivered on time. The Albert Hall has been beautifully transformed and will now serve as a vibrant hub for the Swansea community for years to come.”
